RAAF Base Darwin Refresh Completion

We are pleased to announce that remediation works at RAAF Base Darwin Living-in Accommodation are now complete with 15 heritage listed buildings restored to their former beauty.

The RAAF Base Darwin Living-in Accommodation buildings are located within the residential precinct in the south-west portion of the base. The refresh project consisted of 16 buildings, 15 of which are heritage listed, dating from 1940/1941. The buildings are examples of tropical type housing built off the ground to increase airflow and provide natural cooling in the hot Northern Territory climate.

Working in line with the Burra Charter the project was delivered in staged sections, using a detailed Heritage Management Plan.

Refurbishment works include ceiling works, internal patching and painting works, replacement of and/or repairs to carpet, joinery, tiles, air-conditioning units, toilets, fittings and associated upgrade works.
To ensure the project completed within a tight client time frame, DDR engaged local Indigenous companies and workers.

Thanks to the owner’s desire to preserve history, these old beauties are now safe, compliant, functional and live another day to tell their tale.
