Project Description

The project comprised refurbishment works at RAAF Darwin to 16 buildings, 15 of which are heritage listed, dating from 1940 and 1941 and examples of tropical type housing being modified to function as barracks and dormitories.

The project involved internal and external refurbishment works in line with the Burra Charter in staged sections, following the MFPE Building Code and Heritage Management Plan.

The scope included:

  • Ceiling works.
  • Internal patching and painting works.
  • Replacement of and/or repairs to carpet, joinery, tiles, air-conditioning units, toilets and fittings.
  • Associated upgrade works.

Project HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sympathetically restoring heritage buildings.
  • Handing back buildings in a more habitable state.
  • Engaging local Indigenous companies and workers on the project.
